Twenty three percent of our universe is made up of a type of matter that is completely different from what we experience in our everyday lives. We are talking about dark matter, and it is important to try to reveal its true nature, even though we are currently unable to observe it directly. Elisabetta Baracchini reminds us that it is dark matter that keeps the universe together, together with dark energy, which determines its destiny, and explains how they are going to look for it directly, in the near future, at the Gran Sasso Science Institute in L’Aquila, by carrying out an innovative experiment funded by the European Research Council.
